Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education

Course commences: February & July of each year

Course duration: 2 years full-time

Description: The Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education is designed to provide a broad-based point of entry to employment in the area of childcare, early childhood education and related professional fields.

The course is designed to attract prospective students into a range of early childhood settings such as long day care centres, pre-schools and kindergarten.

Whilst it can be a stand-alone qualification, it has the advantage of providing graduates with the opportunity to gain entry at the third year level into the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education at Deakin University.

Students will be required to attend a minimum of 400 hours of practical placement over the duration of the course.

The Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education has been developed in conjunction with Deakin University and specifically designed to provide entry at third year level into the Bachelor of Early Childhood

Education (BECE) offered by Deakin University. It is therefore considered to be equivalent in standard to the first two years of a Bachelor degree and after completion of the third year of the BECE, students who wish to undertake an alternative fourth year of study may also exit the BECE with the Bachelor of Teaching (ECE).

Alternative fourth years include the Bachelor of Education (fourth year primary conversion), and the BECE (Hons). Subsequently students may proceed to undertake additional studies to qualify for a master degree in a related field such as a Master of Education (with appropriate levels of work experience).
